As a consumer, now more than ever, it's important to be cautious and keep your confidential information as private as possible. Identity Theft is a growing problem, it is the crime of fraud. The monetary costs are staggering and so is the stress and time it takes to clear your good name if Identity Theft happens to you.

Below is information to enhance your awareness as well as provide you with resources to understand and fight identity theft when and if it occurs to you or yours:

"Phishing" - Pronounced just like the sport of "fishing", this fraud scheme is an attempt to have you become the unknowing provider of the very information you want to keep confidential. Your Social Security Number (SSN), your birthdate, mother's maiden name, account numbers and information along these lines - is exactly what criminals need to steal your identity. Email and phone calls to you are being manipulated to appear as if they are directly from businesses you have accounts and business with. If you are asked to give your confidential information such as Social Security Number or account information via phone or email, please be certain you are dealing with the real service provider you have business with. For example, at Prevail Credit Union (PCU), we already have your confidential information and don't need you to update it or repeat it back to us. Be cautious and use only the phone numbers we have listed. Guarding your personal information these days is more essential than ever.

Monitor Your Own Personal Credit: To enable you to monitor activity on your credit report, Prevail Credit Union encourages you to check your credit at some regular interval to help ensure the credit activity on your report is truly yours.
